Boris Johnson attacks David Cameron

http://waugh.standard.co.uk/2008/08/boris-blows-apa.html

"If you believe the politicians, we have a broken society, in which the courage and morals of young people have been sapped by welfarism and poltiical correctness. And if you look at what is happening in the Beijing Olympics you can see what piffle that is."

Its the evening standard - so it must be true ;) Why they would print clearly damaging material for the tories is strange - could they actually be making up for the mayoralty?

What joy though....the most powerful elected tory dismissing his leaders mantra as "piffle." Which of course it is - its complete, absolute bull.

Please let there be a recording somewhere.....

Boris "dumps" on East London

Last week I commented on Boris's decision to allow Tory Council Hammersmith & Fulham to approve a major new housing scheme to be built without any social housing provision. "Inside Housing" now reports from an unnamed "London Labour Party" source that if Boris intends to "dump" all new social housing in the east of London then he was "lining up for a fight". Another article quotes Andy Slaughter, Labour MP for Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush, said: `[Mr] Johnson's rejection of his own professional officers' advice shows that party politics, rather than housing policy, are determining decisions at City Hall".

Boris' £17.76 lightbulb moment

The man who came to London to end the frivolous and unaccountable spending has just paid an invoice for changing lightbulbs during his Mayoral campaign.

Boris Accused of Cover-up

Questionable deputy, Shambolic mayor

Ray Lewis, Deputy Mayor of LONDON has resigned with immediate effect due to allegations of serious corruption.

24 hours earlier, Boris - the clown-mayor of london stood side by side with Mr Lewis and expressed FULL CONFIDENCE in his sleazy deputy. The allegations included sexual impropriety. (the tories favoured form of sleaze)

Poor Boris

Boris goes nuclear

Paris is in it. Berlin is in it. So is Rome. So are Los Angeles and Sydney. And about 2000 other cities around the world.

But London is no longer a member of Mayors for Peace following Boris Johnson's decision to withdraw.

The organisation was set up and is still run by the office of the Mayor of Hiroshima.

Boris Johnson Wants to Put CCTV on Buses!

Hat-tip to Political Hack for flagging this

Crossrail was never important enough to attract Boris's attention

The Mayor of London is worried that government the government isn’t committed to Crossrail. This is absurd on two important levels. First: it’s absolutely committed, and there’s no reason to conclude otherwise. The Crossrail Bill is making good progress through Parliament and should get Royal Assent soon.

Second, and more importantly, Boris never supported Crossrail as an MP.

According to The Public Whip, Boris didn’t vote on the Crossrail Bill when it was first presented to the Commons in July 2005. And on the many occasions since, where I have had to pilot the Bill through its Commons stages - at two “additional provisions” debates, public bill committee sessions and Report and Third reading - Boris didn’t turn up. Not once. Never, on a single occasion in the Commons, did Bojo ever express an opinion, or vote one way or the other, on the most important infrastructure project that London has seen for generations.

Perhaps he was too busy to concern himself with such trivialities. Whatever the reason, it undermines his claim that he had a long-term ambition to be Mayor of London. Boris is not stupid; he would have known that a strong commitment to Crossrail could only have helped his mayoral bid. The fact that he never showed an interest in such an important project confirms he had no notion at all of standing before ‘Dave’ went on bended knee.

The Politeness of Freedom - A short essay on Political Correctness

I wrote this essay from a Liberal perspective and would not usually post it on Labourhome, however, I feel it's content just as important to social democrats as it is Liberals. there is a need for us to defend political correctness and I do not feel that need is being met in either quantity or quality. Discrimination and prejudice hurts everyone and political correctness is there to combat this. This needs to be explained, I hope I did an OK job.

Last chance to drink on the tube

I will be taking alcohol drinks with me when I go out tonight and tomorrow - I dont normally drink during transit but will be doing so because this is my last opportunity so to do.

Are the Tories really looking forward to Henley?

The Liberals are clearly taking the forthcoming Henley by-election seriously, as evidenced by this YouTube video posted on Saturday. And so, of course, are Labour, I hasten to add.

Hoey makes statement to members of Vauxhall CLP

Vauxhall MP Kate Hoey has released a statement to members of Vauxhall CLP regarding her appointment by the Mayor Boris Johnson and the controversy surrounding the announcement during the election campaign

Johnson today announced that Hoey would be Commissioner for Sport - see http://www.london.gov.uk/view_press_release.jsp?releaseid=16913

Gavin Hayes, General Sec of Compass touted for Hoey's seat

PinkNews.co.uk has learnt that Gavin Hayes, the general secretary of left-leaning pressure group Compass, is being touted as a more viable challenger to Ms Hoey.

Jasper takes aim at Kate Hoey

It appears that Lee Jasper is considering a challenge to deselect Kate Hoey. Irrespective of people’s views on Jasper I am increasingly wondering if Kate Hoey is really someone suited to being a member of the Labour party.

Boris Is the Fiishbowl of Tory Contradictions

Fortunately for the Labour Party, Boris Johnson not only remains a contradiction incarnate but now provides the public a high-profile fishbowl of Tory (opportunistic) contradictions too! As we know, despite his, and the Tory Party’s, proclamations, Johnson’s actual policies contradict them and do not give anyone any confidence that they will help lead toward the proclaimed goals. How would Johnson justify and reconcile his apparent anti-crime tough stance with his actual opposition to the proposed automatic five-year sentence for knife/firearm possession? Or reconciling Cameron’s green leanings with his own declared intention to undermine Ken’s new Congestion Charge initiatives against the gas guzzlers?
